Thrill of the Hunt

After more than 5 years of tracking this Zodiac red dot diver, it is finally home.

My love affair with timepieces started a long time ago as bonding time with my dad. He was the original watch nut, regaling me with stories about how beautiful this watch is and that, how he regretted selling this watch and that, and how we should now team up to get back this watch and that. After hundreds of his stories, imagined or not, there was one watch that really stood out: The Zodiac Seawolf. I mean, who could really argue with a watch named like that! And so there I was, a newly minted vintage watch guy, secretly plotting to hunt down a wolf for my old man’s birthday.

Since then, I’ve always been fascinated with Zodiacs. The Seawolf, Super Seawolf, Astrographic, and THIS close to impossible to find Valjoux 7750 powered red dot chronograph from the 80s. For years I tried scouring the web, ebay, zodiac forums, watch clubs and what not but to no avail. And while many a different hunt has been launched, I never lost hope on this particular chase.

As only watch gods would have it, Today in Singapore, I came face to face with 2 Zodiacs, 1 black and 1 blue. While the black one was cheaper, the Blue one has always been the grail. I will probably talk about the watch itself in another post, but for now, it is just about this 5 year old hunt, and the thrill that this Zodiac is finally home.
